feeling fresh | easy ways to spruce up your space for spring

The weather is heating up, sandals are coming out and it’s time for a Spring cleaning.  If you’re like me and you’ve already budgeted all your funds for a great summer vacation and some of those Spring fashion must-haves, then you don’t have a ton of bones left to take the winter feel out of your home with a completely new look.  Not to worry, I’ve compiled a list of 6 easy and affordable ways to make your cozy apartment and lavish pad feel fresh again – just in time to turn on the AC.

1 | Hit your local papery and wrap some books in pretty paper to brighten up shelves.

2 | Swap out your stools for fun alternatives like these peach chairs below, or these, or these.

3 | Add a pop of color to an accent wall or hallway.

4 | Nothing’s more fresh than a vase of just-picked flowers!  Snag a 99 cent jar from your local resale shop and spruce up your coffee table.

5 | Switch out your pillows and blanket for a brighter alternate.  You don’t have to buy a new sofa to make it look new!

6 | Take a sunny Saturday and splash some paint on a canvas with supplies from your local Michael’s.  It won’t cost you more than $100, and no one else will have it.  Something simple and abstract will make a statement, feel modern…and most importantly, freshen up the space!

And, as always, some inspiration!

After that’s done, freshen up your taste buds and grab a snow cone!

april showers…me with gifts? | birthday month wishlist

As April approaches, I can’t help but get excited for a little double holiday on Earth Day…my birthday!  While birthdays aren’t quite what they used to be when I was a kid, I still look forward to an excuse to hang with my friends and family…and splurge on a little something for myself.  Even though most of the items I’ve been dreaming of are out of the normal gift price range…well, a girl can dream.  Without further ado, this years wishlist:

The best gift, always: a gathering of close friends and family.

This year, my dad is visiting me in New York City (he hasn’t been here since he was 9!) and I’m excited to enjoy a birthday brunch with him at ABC Kitchen to celebrate.

1 | Canon EOS Rebel T3i – $799 from Best Buy

2 | Gift Cards – J.Crew, ZARA, H&M and Starbucks, please.

3 | Vacation! I’d love to visit Venice, Italy…especially if I had #1 (hint, hint).

4 | Oster Beehive Blender from BB&B…smoothie time!

And, since I’ve been itching to do this for a long time, I’m treating myself this year – and taking an oil class!  Hopefully by the time I’m done, I’ll walk out with 2 paintings looking something like these (big goal, I know).  I just can’t wait to have another medium to create with – for gifts and my own home decor!
